A MENTION of Tattersalls is a reminder that the International Horse Trials take place at the company’s Co Meath base next week, starting on Wednesday, and that there is a large number of Northern combinations in the record entry for the event.

Among the 24 Olympians who have horses listed is Killyleagh-based Joseph Murphy, who has two horses entered in the George Mernagh Memorial CIC3* class, and Gilford’s Trevor Smith. The latter has only one ride at the event but his brother Steven has four. Other Northern competitors of interest include England-based Dromore native Susie Berry who has three horses entered, one being in the Connolly’s Red Mills CCI2* class for riders under 25. This is the 14-year-old grey gelding Stonedge who was purchased earlier this year by Belfast agri technology company Devenish Nutrition.
