The promising Angelic Light will bid to give Michael O’Callaghan a second victory in the Group 3 Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.

The trainer won this race with Blue De Vega in 2015 and is hopeful that the daughter of Dark Angel, who was an impressive winner of a Curragh maiden in late August, has what it takes to become the fourth filly to win this race in the last seven years.

Angelic Light was unplaced in the Moyglare Stakes on her penultimate outing but bounced back with an encouraging fourth to All The King’s Men in the Listed Legacy Stakes at Navan last weekend.

“She goes for the Killavullan. She just had a little incident in the Moyglare and there was something just not right with her after the race so we put a line through that and got it ironed out at Navan,” said the trainer.

“Six furlongs in stakes company is probably a little too sharp for her. She did run quite well at Navan but she does want to step up to seven furlongs and I think seven furlongs around the bend should see an improved performance out of her again,” he added.

Meanwhile, Willie Mullins is considering a crack at the Trigo Stakes with Riven Light following his unplaced run in South Korea last month.

The dual Galway Festival winner produced one of the best handicap performances seen in Ireland in recent years when he won the Colm Quinn BMW Mile off top weight in late July which was his first start since he suffered a serious injury in Australia this time last year.

“Riven Light has had a few options and the Trigo Stakes is under consideration if the ground doesn’t get too dry. We’ll see how he is during the remainder of the week but we certainly might let him take his chance there,” commented Mullins.

“He has come back from Korea in good form and he’s been fine since. He just didn’t handle the surface in Seoul and from very early in the race it was obvious that he wasn’t going to operate”.
