BALLYPATRICK Auctions returns this December with its largest and strongest collection to date, featuring 34 exceptional horses, and taking place over two nights on Sunday and Monday, December 28th and 29th. The 2025 edition continues the auction’s reputation for offering carefully selected horses from proven performance families, with quality and rideability at the forefront.

The sale opens on Sunday, December 28th, with a top-class selection of jumping horse including Grand Prix level six- and seven-year-old prospects, hugely promising young horses, and standout candidates for professional riders, Young Riders, Juniors, and ambitious amateurs.

On Monday, December 29th, the auction concludes with a quality group of three-year-olds and ponies, showcasing elite breeding, athleticism, and long-term potential - a section that has become a defining feature of the Ballypatrick Auctions offering.

Exceptional

Speaking ahead of the sale, Greg Broderick commented: “This is without doubt the biggest and strongest collection we’ve ever put together. The depth of breeding and performance families is exceptional, and we’re very proud of the overall quality. There are horses here for the very top of the sport, as well as fantastic opportunities for people looking to produce something special.”

A 2025 star of the sport to come from the first edition of the Ballypatrick Auction is BP Othello, bought by Michael Roche as a three-year-old. This year he went on to win the six-year-old championship at the Dublin Horse Show with Roche’s cousin and Ballypatrick resident rider Niamh McEvoy in the saddle, before the pair scored a silver medal at the FEI World Breeding Championships in Lanaken.

“It was the first year of the auction and there were a lot of nice horses in it. One of my favourite horses on the go at that time was ESI Ali, who is a half-brother to Othello. I really liked the look of him.

“I just bought him off the video and took a chance on him; I knew the reputation of Ballypatrick,” Roche told The Irish Field.

“He obviously worked out very well and has turned out to be very good value,” added Roche who rode the gelding to finish runner-up as a four-year-old at the Dublin Horse Show and, when training and work as a barrister took over, he handed the reins to his cousin. “It’s lovely to be part of Ballypatrick. The quality of the whole system there is so professional; the whole job is very well done. To have Niamh, being family, and to be so much involved in it is very rewarding.”

Masterpiece family

Winner of the aforementioned four-year-old Dublin championship ahead of BP Othello in 2023 was BP Lady Masterpiece (Lot 3) who is one of the standout lots offered this year. By the legendary Diamant de Semilly out of BP Masterpiece (by Cruising), BP Lady Masterpiece carries a lineage proven at the very top of the sport and she’s already making her own mark.

After her four-year-old victory, she has spent some time in the breeding paddock. BP Lady Masterpiece’s 2022 colt by Quel Homme de Hus is among the exciting bunch of three-year-olds lots in the auction.

The full collection of 34 horses is now live and available to view online, with detailed videos, pedigrees, and full information on each lot.
