THE Irish EBF Barrier Trials return today (Monday, June 28th) at Dundalk Stadium.

Ten trials will take place starting at 2pm and running approximately every 20 minutes until approximately 5pm. The trials are run by Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, with the support of the Irish EBF and IHRB.

The trials are for unraced two-year-olds and three-year-olds and held over five, six, and seven furlongs. They are staged to meet the strong demand for quality unraced thoroughbreds out of Ireland.

Jeremy Greene of Irish Thoroughbred Marketing said: “ITM has run Barrier Trials with the cooperation of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board since 2018. The Trials are run primarily to meet significant demand, both locally and abroad, for quality unraced horses.

“Two dates staged at Dundalk in July and September 2020 attracted 143 entries from 40 different stables. Some 25 individual winners have emerged from those occasions, most notably Group 1 National Stakes winner Thunder Moon, dual Group 3 scorer A Case Of You and Cathkin Peak, a listed winner in California.

“Many more winners from previous dates have surfaced, including in Britain and Hong Kong, and connections from as far afield as Australia have bought into unraced graduates that have performed well in the trials.

“Monday’s trials have again attracted many quality runners from leading Irish stables and by some of the world’s foremost sires. The trials will make for essential viewing for those wishing to assess some of Ireland’s top emerging talent.”

Results and videos for each heat will be available on the ITM website, ITM YouTube channel, and ITM social media channels shortly each Trial. Trials will also be available to view live on the ITM YouTube channel.

Those attending Monday’s trials are required to register through IHRB Health Screening as per normal Irish racedays and temperatures will be checked on arrival at the racecourse. Failure to register beforehand will deny entry to the barrier trials.

It is intended that further trials will take place on Wednesday, August 18th and Monday, September 13th. Trials will be advertised on the HRI RÁS entries webpage two weeks in advance with entries opening shortly afterwards.
