WHILE there were plenty of southern-trained also-rans at Portrush last Saturday, it was great to see all six races at this Route Hunt meeting being won by northern-trained horses and, importantly, with local riders on board four of them.

Deckie Lavery recorded a double to bring up a half-century of victories between the flags. He first won the five-year-old geldings’ maiden on the Fame And Glory bay Glebe Road, who is trained in Downpatrick by Patrick Turley for his wife Mary Kelly.
