LONG before he became a member of Horse Sport Ireland’s eventing teams at Junior, Young Rider and now senior level with Mags and Frank Kinsella’s Rioghan Rua, the performances of the recent European eventing individual bronze medal-winner, Cathal Daniels, were well covered in the Irish Horse World.

As far as this column is concerned, one of his big days came in 2014 when, as a member of the Tynagh Branch and representing Area 8, he won the Members’ combined training competition at the Dublin Horse Show on board Margaret Hynes’s Barnaboy Freeman. That victory came two years after Cathal had won individual and team gold on Master Murrose at the European pony championships in Fontainebleau.
