TWELVE students from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland polo team travelled to Scotland recently, to compete in the annual St Andrew’s Scottish winter polo tournament. Kinross polo club welcomed the RCSI team, as well as other student teams from all over the UK, who were all bidding to win the trophy plate.

The RCSI first team made it through to the final, which was played on West Sands Beach, famous for featuring in the opening scenes of the film Chariots Of Fire. The RCSI trio of Ailbhe Houlihan, Senan O’Connell and final year medical student Daniel MacManus became the first Irish side to have won the competition after a series of frenzied seven-minute chukkas.
