WHILE news of Irish horses in the United States last weekend was dominated by the fatal fall of Wicklow Brave in the Grand National Hurdle at Far Hills, New Jersey, down in Fair Hill, Maryland, the CCI4*-L was won by the thoroughbred Paddy The Caddy.

Ridden by the USA’s Erin Sylvester, who owns the 12-year-old Azamour gelding in partnership with breeder Frank McEntee, Paddy The Caddy was eighth after dressage on 33.90 penalties. Mara De Puy led the 47-strong field with Congo Brazzaville C (28.60) but they parted company across the country where Sylvester picked up just 0.4 of a time penalty.
