RACE 1: YUNG SHUE O PLATE

#6 Ruletheroost ran home okay for third behind Romantic Bonanza at his first start. He meets Romantic Bonanza seven pounds better and he looks like he has taken great benefit from that first run. He will appreciate further in time but he can get on the board here.

#12 Witness Hunter makes his debut. He has trialled well enough and he deserves consideration from a good draw with Zac Purton in the saddle. #8 Romantic Bonanza made big improvement from start one to start two. He carries a penalty but he’s not without a hope. #3 Nordic Warrior is not ready yet but he could finish in the placings.

RACE 2: WONG CHUK WAN HANDICAP

#10 Snowhooves doesn’t win out of turn, having only landed the spoils at one of his 42 starts. However, he has been racing well since changing stables and a victory doesn’t appear too far away. Even with a rare four-point penalty for finishing second last time out, he should still be too strong here with his light weight. #6 Corre Rapido has run well on the dirt at his last two outings. He’s not going to be far away again. #2 Ever Strong deserves respect with Zac Purton once again jumping aboard. #4 Ambitious Speedy has run some okay dirt races before and, after a good last-start effort behind Chaparral Star, he’s ready to find the winners’ circle again.

RACE 3: WONG MA TEI HANDICAP

#1 The Full Bloom is one from one in Class 5 and he has been looking good in his trackwork. Zac Purton is a positive jockey booking and he will be very hard to beat from a good gate in this spot. #6 Young Dreamer has been racing well this season. He is probably better suited at the Happy Valley 1200m but he gets in well thanks to Victor Wong’s 10-pound claim. #7 Yourthewonforme has drawn awkwardly but he should be right in contention under Joao Moreira. #10 Chaparral Star was a big winner for this column at 87/1 last time out. He would appreciate more ground yet, but he’ll be running on late.

RACE 4: HOI HA HANDICAP

#4 Glorious Forever looked like a potential Group horse in the making when winning by four lengths last time out. The step up to 2000m should only suit him – it is the course and distance where his full-brother Time Warp was a two-time Group 1 winner this term – and he should be hard to run down on the lead. That said, both #2 Insayshable and #1 Stimulation will prove tough competition second-up. Insayshable returned with a distant second at Happy Valley behind Doctor Geoff, but he should improve dramatically and he’s a contender.

#1 Stimulation, the first son of Deep Impact in training in Hong Kong, didn’t look anywhere near fit first-up when second to the lightly-weighted Pikachu. He will make it to Group level next season, but he can run a bold race here. #5 Super Chic is next best.

RACE 5: SHAM CHUNG HANDICAP

#4 Bellagio debuted well last month, struggling to get a clear run before dead-heating for third. He should only take improvement for that effort and, even from the awkward gate, he will be hard to beat. #2 Khaki steps out for Tony Millard for the first time. He has trialled well, Millard has a good record with stable transfers and Chad Schofield is the yard’s go-to jockey, so even though he has shown very little in nine Hong Kong starts, he can be expected to improve sharply very quickly. #7 Cordyceps ran third at a big price first time out. Joao Moreira jumps aboard from a good gate and he can’t be overlooked. #8 Lightning Treasure is improving steadily and should run another good race.

RACE 6: SHUI LONG WO HANDICAP

#1 Amazing Moment has run well at his last two starts over this course and distance. He’s drawn another good gate with Zac Purton legged up again, so he’s going to be hard to beat. #4 Giddy Giddy has run admirably since dropping in grade and he is likely to be around the mark again.

#7 Elite Spirit ran poorly last time out but his two runs before that had been good. Expect him to run a better race this time out. #2 Dr Proactive is suited stepping back to 1200m.

RACE 7: TSAM CHUK WAN HANDICAP

#9 Jolly Gains has been racing well without winning. He has a plum draw and he should enjoy a nice run in transit, so if he can present at the right time, he can take this contest. #10 Winning Controller ran well enough last time out at big odds. Joao Moreira takes the mount and he can take another step forward. #6 Jin Jin King has shown better signs at his last two starts. The step up to 1600m suits, although he might still be getting his head around the racing caper, and improvement can be expected. #3 Sunny Power is next best.

RACE 8: LAI CHI CHONG HANDICAP

#4 Encore Boy makes his first appearance on dirt here. He has a running style that should be suited to the surface and he shapes as a major contender in this spot. Hong Kong debutant #8 Simply Big won his last two races on synthetic surfaces in the UK. He has trialled a treat and he looks one to watch here. #1 California Archer continues to run well. Like last time, a wide draw doesn’t look a major negative, it is more about the amount of pressure he will face. Still, he deserves respect. #2 Mr Wealth can run well if he can take a step forward on his last effort.

RACE 9: TAI MONG TSAI HANDICAP

#7 Pakistan Friend makes his debut. A graduate of the International Sale, where the chestnut turned plenty of heads, the three-year-old Not A Single Doubt gelding has shaped as though he will be far better for the outing. Still, he’s clearly got some sort of talent so he can’t be overlooked. #2 Enjoy Life has been racing very well. He gets in well with Victor Wong’s claim and from another good gate, he’s a contender once more. #3 Impeccable Fellow is improving and he deserves respect. #4 Big Bully gets Zac Purton aboard and he merits close attention.

RACE 10: LAI CHI CHONG HANDICAP

#5 Patch Baby ran well at his last two starts. As a son of More Than Ready, he creates interest switching to the dirt with Zac Purton taking the ride again and he shapes up well in this spot. #8 Hard Promise is another dirt debutant with a fascinating pedigree for the surface, being by Hard Spun. He hasn’t shown much recently but there are signs that, at his first run in three months, he could produce a better effort.

#3 Raging Blitzkrieg ran well enough at his first start on the surface. He deserves consideration here. #10 Exceptional Desire has a forward racing style that could see him suited on the dirt.

RACE 11: PAK SHA O HANDICAP

#3 Penang Hall had shown nothing at all this season until his last start, when he stuck on well for fifth behind Marzouq. Stepping back to 1400m might prove a good move and he’s worth a chance in this spot.

#8 Chung Wah Spirit gets blinkers back on and he’s at a rating where he should prove competitive again. Zac Purton, who won on the horse before, takes the ride again and he will be right in contention. #5 Taking Aim has found form and it won’t take much for him to figure from a good gate. #1 Bombay Blitz is steadily improving and he deserves respect.
