THE Vintage Stakes was hailed as one for the ages with the clash of four exciting juveniles in Chesham one-two Pinatubo and Lope Y Fernandez, the much-vaunted Visinari and Superlative Stakes hero Mystery Power.

In the end it was one-way traffic, with Charlie Appleby’s unbeaten Pinatubo stretching his sequence under James Doyle with a truly dominant display on the softening ground, and at the line he was five lengths clear of the unheralded maiden winner Positive (Clive Cox/Adam Kirby), with the same distance back to Lope Y Fernandez (Aidan O’Brien/Ryan Moore in third. Visinari set the pace but went backwards for the step up to seven furlongs, while Mystery Power was beaten by more than his penalty and trailed in one from last.
