5:10 Tote Always SP Or Better At Galway Maiden Hurdle (5yo+) 2m5f 20 runners

Twenty-runner maiden hurdle round Galway - help! But it may pay to stick with the more fancied runners.

Dawn Rising is a Galileo gelding not seen on the racetrack since Newmarket in 2020 when he ran second in a Group 3. He’s obviously been laid out for this but this is not an ideal track at which to make a hurdling debut. Champ Kiely looks the Mullins pick and was last seen in May 2021 winning a Limerick bumper when favourite.

Lasparas and Valley Breeze also deserve a look from the Mullins yard along with Misty’s Gift who has decent bumper form from Harry Kelly.

Gordon Elliott’s Country Queen won well on the flat at Bellewstown and has Jack Kennedy at the controls to keep her straight.

SELECTION: Champ Kiely NEXT BEST: Country Queen

5:40 SP Or Better Guaranteed With Tote Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m6½f 20 runners

Another Mullins favourite in a 20-runner handicap. Rock Road was a beaten favourite over three miles in Killarney.

San Salvador returned after an absence with a decent second on the flat in Ballinrobe.

Peter Fahey’s Skippin Court came back to winning form in Sligo after a few poor runs and could have a bit in hand under 4lb claimer Neil Ryan.

Denis Hogan was on the mark on the first day and Wild Hunt has missed some engagements lately but the son of Dubawi has decent winning form back in March over there miles.

SELECTION: Rock Road NEXT BEST: Wild Hunt

6:10 Free Jackpot All Customers At Tote.ie Irish EBF Mares Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m½f 20 runners

Shesadream, Hophornbeam and Return To Base give Gordon Elliott a strong hand in this mares' contest. The latter is the shortest priced but is inexperienced with just the one winning maiden run.

Purple Mountain was eased out the back when last seen in November in a Fairyhouse Grade A mares' handicap but these connections are to be feared.

Down the bottom of the weights, Rachael Blackmore should get a good spin from Peter Flood’s Turnpole Annie.

Mark Fahey’s Rebel Rose won well at Ballinrobe and might be a bit of double-figure value.

SELECTION: Purple Mountain NEXT BEST: Turnpole Annie

6:40 Tote Galway Plate (Handicap Chase) (Grade A) (4yo+) 2m6½f 22 runners

The last seven years of the Galway feature reflect the current trends in Irish racing with four trainers sharing the spoils (Elliott 3, de Bromhead 2, Willie Mullins and Joseph O’Brien 1 win each), so it probably is worth looking at their runners first. Mullins and Joseph O’Brien were responsible for five of the first seven last year.

Despite the fact that the last two fences are so far from home and there is a long, uphill run-in, prominent runners do well in this race. Royal Rendezvous led from three out last season. Hewick went for home early in his big win in the Bet365 Chase and this has been his target and he is very much respected for Shark Hanlon.

Gabynako is another who can race prominently and generally jumps well though he has enough weight.

Three of the first four home last year are involved again, with last year’s length second Easy Game now top-weight on 11st 12lb.

Paddy, Willie and Tom Mullins have their names on the Plate and this could be Emmet’s year to capture one of the most prestigious handicaps in the Irish calendar. Cape Gentleman (third in the Galway Hurdle) and The Shunter (fourth in this last year) give him a strong hand. The Shunter has been a bit out of form since his great 2021 season but was back with a win on the flat at Sligo recently and will be primed for this. However, the classy hurdler Cape Gentleman is the choice, with a slight reservation over his lack of chase experience – just three completed chases – but that didn’t hinder Noble Yeats in the Grand National and he has the classy profile that has been successful here of late.

Easy Game, second last year, has a tough task off 11st 9lb in what might be a classier race this time around and El Barra, who raced in top company over the winter, looks the best of the Willie Mullins trio.

Gigginstown House has won four of the last eight runnings and Joseph O’Brien handles its leading contender Fire Attack, who has prospects. Ash Tree Meadow has won three novices chases in a row for Gordon Elliott but this is much tougher.

Hurricane Georgie impressed over an extended three miles when winning by 13 lengths in Kilbeggan and might be best for that stable. Castlegrace Paddy warmed up on the flat with a nice win in Killarney.

SELECTION: Cape Gentleman NEXT BEST: El Barra

Hallowed Star looks the starting point for Shark Hanlon, Patrick Mullins and the Mee family in the amateur riders’ maiden after two second places on his last runs.

Willie Mullins’ Dads Lad was the easy winner of a Limerick novice chase but his rider is one of the least experienced.

Emmet Mullins runs two, Merlin Giant also in the Mee colours carried by the favourite, and Thousand Tears,

Porthos is a Galileo colt from Donnacha O’Brien and Monarchs Brae could go close to giving Dermot Weld another winner at the meeting. But the verdict goes to the Joseph O’Brien trained, J.P. McManus-owned Comfort Zone, based on his three-year-old reappearance following two decent second placings for the Churchill gelding at two and with Derek O’Connor in the saddle today.

SELECTION: Comfort Zone NEXT BEST: Monarchs Brae

7:50 Play The Tote Exacta On Every Race Handicap (3yo) 1m½f 12 runners

Only 12 runners here and the Harrington runner Dairerin sets the standard if he turns out again after Monday’s win under the 7lb penalty.

Ezine was only fifth when favourite in a Gowran handicap and you would expect a bit better here from the Dermot Weld-trained Naas maiden winner.

Sir Antonino finally got off the mark in Limerick for Joseph O'Brien after some good two-year-old form. Smooth Tom for the Slatterys from stall 1 might be worth the each-way wager.

SELECTION: Dairerin NEXT BEST: Ezine

Another puzzler of a handicap with the Martin/Breslin favourite Unanswered sure to make a bold bid for four-in-a-row. Billy Lee should get a good position from stall 7. The Mullins runner Dark Voyager cannot be left out as his easy Curragh conqueror Maze Runner ran well on Monday night.

Joseph Murphy’s Away To Sea could be one to consider at bigger odds. He is drawn very wide but, if getting inside, could build on his Killarney second placing.

Matthew Smith is another trainer to have his runners primed for this meeting and has Cozone with Colin Keane on board here. They should not be left out of calculations.

SELECTON: Cozone NEXT BEST: Away To Sea
