IRISH riders have secured four podium finishes at shows in Europe and USA this weekend, including a win apiece for Tipperary pair Shane Breen and Thomas Ryan.

Ryan was first to claim a victory in a speed class at the Italian three-star show in Arezzo, aboard the 16-year-old Irish Sport Horse Cruise On Clover. They finished over a second ahead of their nearest challenger, while Ireland’s Roger McCrea finished fifth in the same competition with Sweet Cinnamon.

Army rider Lt. David Power scored another podium finish for Ireland in Arezzo, when he took third place in a speed class with the Irish Sport Horse, Drumiller Lough.

Cashel-born Shane Breen later scored a win at the three-star fixture at Lummen in Belgium. A huge field of 87 horses and riders was reduced to 23 for the jump-off, with Breen coming out on top with the 10-year-old gelding Guidam Van Het Achterhoek.

Meanwhile as the Longines Global Champions Tour season got underway in Miami, Offaly’s Darragh Kenny grabbed a third place finish in a two-star class with Chanel.
