Co Down's Conor Swail finished best of the Irish in the $380,000 five-star Grand Prix at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Riding the 11-year-old stallion Rubens LS La Silla, they were one of 11 combinations who jumped clear in the first round. They lowered a single fence in the jump-off, coming home in a time of 46.74 seconds to take fifth place overall, one place ahead of the 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse stallion Codarco ridden by American Chloe Reid.

Kent Farrington scooped the winner's prize with Gazelle after they produced the fastest of three double clear rounds.

Derry's Daniel Coyle finished with five faults in the opening round with Grafton, while Cork's Shane Sweetnam came home with eight faults aboard Main Road.

Wexford's Bertram Allen was the sole Irish representative in Sunday morning's $400,000 Longines Masters of Hong Kong Grand Prix but he failed to make it into the second round with Hector van d'Abdijhoeve.

Allen did however finish on the podium in Saturday's Longines Speed Challenge in Hong Kong. He finished third with and Quiet Easy in a competition the pair won in 2016. On this occasion the winners trophy went to German World No.1 Daniel Deusser with Happiness van T Paradijs.
