IT was good to see two smart five-year-olds head the action in their respective EI100 classes. Saturday’s edition fell to Michael McNally’s chesnut gelding Sweet Rolo who was making just his third run under rules.

Sourced from Sarah Maxwell last year, the son of Ol Metta (damsire unrecorded) spent the close season show jumping (1.20m) and McNally aims to upgrade him to EI110 shortly. A classy performer, he produced one of just six double clear rounds, turning the tables on his stablemate and dressage leader Port Sunshine (Amanda Goldsbury). The latter gelding, by Urban Poet, is fresh from three runs under National Hunt rules, and only recently came out of training.
