GALWAY international eventing rider, Cathal Daniels took a ninth place finish in the prestigious

Longines Luhmühlen five-star competition in Germany yesterday (Sunday).

Riding the Irish Sport Horse LEB Lias Jewel (pictured), Kildare-based Daniels scored 38.1 in the opening dressage phase which put him in 20th position. A brilliant clear cross-country round on Saturday inside the time saw the Galway native rocket up to fifth place overall. Daniels picked up eight penalties in the final jumping phase which saw him finish ninth overall on a score of 46.1.

Michael Ryan and Barnahown Corn Hill (ISH) also completed the demanding three days of competition and finished in 13th place with a score of 68.6.

Victory went to Britain’s Mollie Summerland and Charly van ter Heiden on a score of 30.2. Christoph Wahler (GER) and Ariel Grald (USA) finished the competition in second and third place with 32.1 and 37.4 penalties respectively.
