THE sad passing of Toby Balding affected many in racing but there is no doubt the ebullient trainer would have wanted his nephew to lighten the mood at Newmarket and Andrew Balding made sure it happened when Elm Park, 11/4, accounted for warm favourite Nafaqa in the Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes.

The first two went clear close home after Salateen had led to well inside the final furlong. Elm Park, who stumbled leaving the stalls and briefly lost his action in the closing stages, stayed on to master him a 100 yards out and then held Nafaqa by a length.
