THE battle for the senior jockeys’ championship is a tight one and so too is the enthralling fight for the apprentice title where Oisin Orr and Andy Slattery are virtually inseparable. The pair fought out the finish of the first divide of the apprentice jockeys’ handicap where the Orr-ridden Buzz Killington (8/1) prevailed in first-time blinkers despite labouring for much of the race. On the fifth outing of his career the Anthony Kaminskas-owned gelding struck the front deep inside the last furlong to score by half a length.

The winner appeals as one that could progress over further, whereas Meade was making it 17 winners for the season, his joint best tally on the flat since 1998.
