AS they limber up for what is sure to be another big season on turf, Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley joined forces for a double which featured a victory for the very smart Harpocrates in the well contested one-mile conditions race.

Four of the six runners here boasted ratings in excess of 100 and two of those – Current Option and Harry’s Bar – were successful at stakes level towards the end of last season, so this race had plenty of substance to it. The Zhang Yuesheng-owned Harpocrates possibly hasn’t won the races that his talents merited but he showed what he can do when he puts it altogether. The former Acomb Stakes second seemed to have the measure of the front-running odds-on favourite San Andreas as the last furlong loomed and Foley never had to get too animated in the closing stages for his mount to succeed by a length and a half.
