RICHARD Hughes, three times champion jockey, sent out his first winner as a trainer when Duchess Of Marmite landed the opening two-mile handicap at Kempton on Tuesday evening. Ridden by Shane Kelly, the filly came from off the pace to beat Flighty Filia quite tidily by a neck, justifying 9/4 favouritism in the process.

Duchess Of Marmite was Hughes’ first runner from Weathercock House in Lambourn following his move there only last Saturday. Owned by Malcolm Denmark, the stable was formerly occupied by Jenny Pitman, followed by her son Mark.
