AIDAN O’Brien’s 2000 Guineas runner-up Wichita (Frankie Dettori) fought hard to repel the he late thrust of One Master (William Haggas/Tom Marquand) to win the Group 2 Park Stakes by a short head, with Molatham (Roger Varian/Jim Crowley), who had beaten the winner in the Flying Scotsman Stakes at the fixture last year, two lengths back in third.

The winner, who attracted support which saw him start 11/4 favourite, was bouncing back from a couple of below par efforts. His trainer has few peers when it comes to making his stars as resilient as they are brilliant, and the winner looked better than ever as he rallied to deny what had looked a race-winning move by Marquand on the runner-up, One Master who appeared to put her nose in front just a couple strides from the line, but it was Wichita whose head was thrust forward when it mattered most.
