THE French have sent a talented squad to Del Mar for the Breeders’ Cup this evening. The quartet will not be among the leading fancies but they would all appear to have an each-way chance of being in the money.

Pascal Bary will saddle Senga (16/1) in the Filly and Mare Turf where the American-bred daughter of Blame should have her preferred good or even faster ground. Owned and bred by the Niarchos family, Senga (Agnes spelt backwards) reached the pinnacle of her career when winning the Prix de Diane Longines. She will again come up against Rhododendron who was pulled-up after bleeding badly. She had her revenge in the Prix de l’Opera but Senga hated the soft ground on that occasion.
