FOLLOWING last week’s reveal of the Goffs Orby Sale catalogue, the Co Kildare venue has unveiled 433 yearlings for Orby Book 2, marking a significant reduction from 480 lots last year.

Another notable change is that, as with the preceding Orby Book 1 Sale, selling will get underway a day earlier this year, putting Orby Book 2 on Wednesday, October 1st and Thursday October 2nd.

Breeze-up consignors have done particularly well with their Orby Book 2 buys of late, with Ryan Conran’s Lacka House Stables sourcing French 1000 Guineas runner-up Shes Perfect there for €35,000.

Conran made a profit with the daughter of Sioux Nation, but arguably the most impressive turnaround at this year’s breeze-up sales was achieved by Johnny and Danielle Hurley of Woodlands Lodge. The couple bought a Kodi Bear colt at Goffs Orby Book 2 for €9,000 and resold him for £500,000 to Godolphin at the Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale.

Roderic Kavanagh of Glendings Stables was another to reap rewards with a Orby Book 2 buy, turning a €29,000 yearling into a €330,000 top lot at the inaugural Goffs Classic Breeze Up Sale.

End users have also availed of the value to be found at Orby Book 2, with Kevin Ross purchasing Group 2 Greenlands Stakes victor James’s Delight for €55,000, while Kevin Blake picked up three-time listed winner Lady With The Lamp for just €14,000.

Several siblings of stakes horses feature in this year’s catalogue, including a Sioux Nation half-brother to July Stakes victor Jasour, own-sister to dual group winner Greenland and a close relation to Group 1 performer Rosscarbery. Blacktype mares featured include Princess Margaret Stakes winner Soraaya and Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Saoire.

Australia, Blue Point, Blackbeard, Dark Angel, Kodiac, Mehmas, Saxon Warrior, Sioux Nation, Starman, Starspangledbanner and Too Darn Hot are among the proven sires with progeny catalogued.

Every yearling in Orby Book 2 is eligible for the unique Two Million Series, with its €2,000,000 prize fund divided equally between Europe’s richest two-year-old race, the €1,000,000 Goffs Million and €1,000,000 of €50,000 Bonuses across a diverse programme of two-year-old races in Ireland and the UK.
