Sajir, the fastest colt ever to win the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, will stand at Shadwell's Beech House Stud in Newmarket next year, on behalf of his owner and breeder Prince A A Faisal’s Nawara Stud.
The Nawara Stud-homebred was an exceptional winner of the Deauville showpiece in 2025.
A five and a half-length winner of the Listed Prix Saraca at two, Sajir went on to win group races at three, four and five. His four-year-old campaign saw him claim the Group 3 Abernant Stakes at Newmarket before securing Group 1 glory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest.
Versatility is another key attribute. His Group 1 triumph came over six and a half furlongs, while he also won group races over five furlongs, taking the Prix Sigy at three and the Prix du Gros-Chêne at five. The Abernant win was over six furlongs, while his victory in the Listed Prix Saraca demonstrated his ability over seven. Importantly, that success qualifies his progeny for the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Bred and raced by the same owner-breeder behind Invincible Spirit and Kodiac, Sajir had an official rating of 120, achieved after winning the Prix Maurice de Gheest, which exceeds the peak ratings of both tha aforementioned sires.
By Make Believe, Sajir is out of Simple Magic, an Invincible Spirit mare who placed in the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes over six-furlongs as a two-year-old. He is also a close relation to stakes winner and multiple group race performer Nahraan, and hails from the distinguished family of Coup De Genie, Machiavellian, Exit to Nowhere, Bago and Laurel River, among numerous other top-class performers.
Sajir’s stud fee will be announced in due course. Breeders will have the opportunity to view him during the Tattersalls December Breeding Stock Sale, with further details to be confirmed.
His trainer André Fabre said: “Sajir was a pleasure to train. He was clearly a very talented sprinter, but he also combined ability with precocity, versatility and durability - a combination that doesn’t always come together. His Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest victory was a very impressive performance. He should be an appealing prospect for breeders looking to produce tough, talented and fast horses.”
Jockey Oisin Murphy added: "Sajir is a beautiful model, with a great mind and clearly a very fast horse. His performance in winning the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest was absolutely fantastic, but he also showed how durable he was throughout his career. I look forward to riding his progeny in years to come; I have a lot of belief in him.”
Ted Voute, racing manager for Prince A A Faisal, commented: “Prince Faisal is delighted to be standing his Group 1-winning sprinter Sajir at Beech House Stud. It was important to him to make this branch of the Dubawi sireline available to British breeders and, given Sajir’s profile, offer them an attractive opportunity, particularly when considering initiatives such as the GBB scheme.
“A very good-looking horse, Sajir had the ability to match. He showed he was a sprinter more than worthy of being a Group 1 winner in the Prix Maurice de Gheest.”
“We are thrilled to be standing him at Shadwell and to be part of their exceptional young roster. Should Sajir pass on his many qualities, he has every chance of a successful career at stud.”
Beech House Stud's general manager Mark Dean said: “Welcoming Sajir to Beech House Stud continues the long and valued relationship between Shadwell and Prince Faisal. Prince Faisal is an owner-breeder who has already had an enduring influence on the thoroughbred breed, so it is a privilege to stand his homebred Sajir on his behalf.
“We recognise that breeders need a range of options to suit their broodmare bands, and we are pleased to add Sajir to the Shadwell roster as a Group 1-winning sprinter with a commercial profile. We look forward to discussing him with breeders.”
