THE Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Yearling Sales Preparation Workshop, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine under the Equine Technical Support Scheme, took place last Wednesday at the Irish National Stud.

Over 90 were in attendance in person and online for the comprehensive workshop that covered all aspects of a good planning programme.

Attendees heard from experts Caroline Hannon, Andrew Mahon, Nicole Groyer, Mark MacRedmond and Nick Nugent, who covered topics such as sales preparation programmes, farriery and veterinary matters, nutrition and sales company perspectives.

A strong message throughout was to treat each yearling individually and don’t be afraid to ask for advice or help. Each piece comes together to make the puzzle and you want to have good input from all experts on your journey to the sales ring.

The afternoon comprised of a yard visit where attendees inspected a small group of yearlings and assessed conformation.

Hannah Marks of the ITBA commented: “We would like to extend our thanks to all the speakers and our hosts at the Irish National Stud.”
