BREEDER Canice Farrell Snr of Knockatrina House in Durrow, Co Laois, passed away peacefully on Thursday at home. He was 92.

He is survived by his wife Lena and their four children Marette, Anita, Canice and Edwina, all of whom are involved in the thoroughbred business.

Marette, a leading bloodstock agent based in Kentucky, was recently appointed a member of the US Jockey Club.

His son Canice runs the stud, which has produced plenty of top-class horses on the flat, including several Group 1 winners.

Fayr Jag, winner of the 2004 Golden Jubilee Stakes, was bred at Knockatrina House. The farm also pinhooked Group 1 miler Paco Boy and, more recently, bred and sold Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner Relief Rally.
