THE Irish weather is unpredictable at the best of times and this can make rugging your horse a difficult job. Horse owners won’t have to dwell on the decision for much longer as Horseware Ireland has developed the HorsePal Temperature and Humidity Monitor. HorsePal will allow horse owners to read the temperature and humidity inside the horse’s rug in real time, from a Smartphone.

By downloading the HorsePal app to your phone, it communicates with the Horseware HorsePal sensor in the rug and sends the temperature data to the app. The app combines this information with the weather forecast for the next three days to make an intelligent recommendation, taking the guesswork out of deciding which rug to use and alerting you to any unexpected sudden weather changes over the coming days.

This new technology was revealed last month at the British Equestrian Trade Association’s (BETA) trade fair and was highly commended in the BETA innovation awards.

The Horseware Turnout app, which is to launch next month, is phase one of the HorsePal app. The two will be integrated later this year. The Horseware Turnout app is for the consumer to use as a definitive guide to keeping their horse warm and dry, whatever the weather.

The app gathers data from weather forecasts for the coming three days and makes a recommendation on which Horseware turnouts will best suit the conditions and your horse. Horse owners will be able to create a profile for each individual horse – inputting details on their condition, whether they’re clipped, age, and breed, to generate a personalised set of rugging options.
