JUST days after it was announced that Tattersalls would take over the running of the Tingle Creek Sale at Sandown on December 9th, Goffs has established a new sale of point-to-pointers at Newbury Racecourse on Coral Gold Cup day, Saturday, December 2nd.

With Tattersalls hosting Cheltenham Sales on November 17th and December 15th, this means there will be four opportunities for point-to-pointers to be offered for sale within a month.

The Coral Gold Cup Sale by Goffs will be held after racing on Coral Gold Cup day. The two-day Newbury fixture is one of the highlights of the jumps season. Doncaster Bloodstock Sales, which was rebranded as Goffs UK in 2016, previously staged a horses-in-training sale at this meeting. The 2013 edition was topped by Un Temps Pour Tout, who sold for £450,000 and went on to win at two Cheltenham Festivals.

Goffs’ UK managing director Tim Kent said: “We are excited by the opportunities Newbury will offer as the racecourse has undergone extensive redevelopment since our last sale there just under 10 years ago and it now offers facilities that are second to none.

“Combined with the world-class Coral Gold Cup meeting, which is always attended by so many leading owners and trainers, it is ideally suited to have a sale of this nature, so we will use our extensive knowledge and experience, learned from years of offsite sales, to make this a success.”

Leading point-to-point handler Donnchadh Doyle commented: “We’re delighted that Goffs is going to Newbury as it’s important to us that we have competition in the market throughout the year. We’re planning to support the sale with some of our better horses.”

David Minton of Highflyer added: “We applaud Goffs’ initiative with this new sale as competition is vital. If the vendors support it, we will too.”

Goffs CEO Henry Beeby said: “No matter the industry or profession, competition is vital for a healthy market. Goffs thrives on offering vibrant competition to the market and it is in that spirit that we head to Newbury to launch the Coral Gold Cup Sale.”
