LAST Sunday marked the 97th anniversary of Béal na mBláth and this year’s guest speaker at the Michael Collins commemoration event was economist Jim Power. West Cork exhibitors have certainly contributed to the agricultural show economy down through the years and Moate last Sunday was another example with no less than five of the 15 All Ireland finalists hailing from the Rebel County.

In fact, it was a complete Cork takeover as the top-three fillies in the A. Browne-sponsored All Ireland filly foal championship, (part of Horse Sport Ireland’s national showing series), were owned by a trio of Cork showmen.
