Joseph O’Brien trains for Juddmonte

JOSEPH O’Brien has been added to the exclusive list of trainers with horses for Juddmonte. O’Brien revealed to The Nick Luck Daily Podcast that he has been sent “a couple of two-year-olds” by the global racing operation. “It’s very hard to get horses that are capable of turning up in classic and Group 1-type races, there’s only a certain amount in each generation, but some of the bigger breeding operations have the access to these incredible families,” O’Brien said. “Juddmonte have that, so we hope that in the coming years we have the type of horse that can compete in those big races.”

Dermot Weld and Ger Lyons also train for Juddmonte in Ireland, while Colin Keane is Juddmonte’s retained rider in Europe. The operation’s British trainers include John and Thady Gosden, Andrew Balding, Ralph Beckett and Harry Charlton. In France, Francis Graffard, Andre Fabre and Henri-Francois Devin enjoy Juddmonte support.

Oasis Dream is pensioned

MULTIPLE Group 1-winning sprinter turned top-class stallion Oasis Dream has been pensioned from stud duties by owner-breeders Juddmonte.

The son of Green Desert enjoyed a short but outstanding career on the racecourse for trainer John Gosden, enjoying top-level success in the 2002 Middle Park Stakes as a juvenile before landing the July Cup and the Nunthorpe the following year.

He was retired for stallion duties at the end of that campaign and has enjoyed 23 seasons at Banstead Manor Stud, siring six-time Group 1-winning mare Midday, champion sprinter Muhaarar and champion two-year-old and Irish 2000 Guineas hero Native Trail among his 18 top-level performs.

Leg operation for Hollie Doyle

HOLLIE Doyle, who suffered a broken leg in a fall at Bath last week, is booked in for surgery on Tuesday.

Doyle, 29, broke both the tibia and fibula in her left leg when parting company with the ill-fated Kevin Frost-trained Vault Of Heaven in a sprint handicap.

She told attheraces.com: “It’s extremely painful and at this stage I have no time frame to work to in terms of getting back in the saddle. I know I’m facing a long spell on the sidelines but am committed to getting back as soon as I can.”
