AS many will have seen on social media during the week, I have started working for the Irish National Stud. It’s a great opportunity to get and I’ll have a chance to deal with people on the other side of the horse racing industry. I’ve always kept a close eye on the breeding side of things so that should stand to me in this role.

It’ll be nice to get the chance to see and promote Famous Name and Free Eagle who I know so well from riding out in Dermot Weld’s. It’s also interesting to see the grassroots of racing, as you get to see the foals that are born on the farm, who could be the next Hurricane Fly or Sea The Stars who were both born there. I’ll now have a great incentive to follow the offspring of Invincible Spirit who’s having such great success around the world.

I’ll be working with the sales and nominations division so there will be plenty of interaction with clients and the public. It’s a beautiful place and John Osborne and the staff are very easy to get along with so that makes life very easy.

I still intend to train and it’s something I’m interested in but I don’t want to just sit around doing nothing in the meantime. The more experience I can get, no matter what field, is going to stand to me. I’ll be meeting plenty of people. I’ll be gaining more contacts but at the same time improving my people skills. It will also give a much greater insight into the breeding of horses which should also prove beneficial once I go training. I’d hope that I’m not just filling a spot in the sales department but that I can bring something to the table that would be beneficial to them also.
