SAFFRON Beach (116) routed a field of high-class fillies and mares to land the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket, justifying the confidence of her trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam, who was landing a first success at the highest level.

William Buick deputised for usual jockey Adam Kirby and gave the daughter of New Bay a no-nonsense ride from the front to ensure there was no hiding place for her rivals. After gathering stride, the 1000 Guineas runner-up reeled off five successive sub-12-second furlongs which meant on reaching the two-furlong marker there was not a rival within striking distance going well enough to mount a serious challenge.

The foundation of her closing sectional of 37.47 seconds was a sixth furlong of 11.87 seconds which was 0.3 seconds faster than her nearest pursuer and ensured form was reversed with Mother Earth (111) who stopped the clock for the section at 37.58 seconds.

Dreamloper (110) was marginally faster through the closing stages posting 37.39 seconds, which arguably could have been faster with a smoother challenge.

Dominant Tatsumaki

Tatsumaki (105+) was equally as dominant in winning the Tattersalls October Auction Sales race looking like a horse destined to compete at group level in future assignments.

Jockey Neil Callan kept hold of Marco Botti’s colt in the early exchanges before eventually giving his mount the office to win the race passing the two-furlong marker. The son of Charming Thought covered the final three furlongs in an impressive 36.96 seconds.

Impressive Sistina

Via Sistina (110+) clocked the most impressive data on the card as she sauntered to victory in the Premier Fillies Handicap. Jamie Spencer delivered Joseph Tuite’s filly from last to first in a closing sectional of 37.30 seconds.
