THE unbeaten champion juvenile in Europe, Teofilo was prevented from adding more successes on the racecourse, but he is now firmly established as one of the leading sires at stud in Ireland, with 11 Group 1 winners to his credit, including the Irish classic winners Trading Leather, Pleascach and Voleuse De Coeurs. Only his own sire Galileo, Dubawi and Dansili had a higher percentage of Group 1 winners to runners in 2016 than Teofilo. In the six seasons that Teofilo has had runners, he has already amassed the remarkable total of more than 60 individual blacktype winners.

Trained in Ireland by Jim Bolger, the handsome bay Teofilo raced five times as a two-year-old, winning every time. He started in July with a win at the Curragh, added the Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown before defeating Eagle Mountain in the Group 2 Galileo Futurity. Teofilo’s next win was in the Group 1 National Stakes at The Curragh in mid-September, before setting the seal on a fantastic season by winning the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, beating Holy Roman Emperor for the second time.

One of the best sons of the perennial champion sire Galileo, Teofilo is out of the Danehill mare Speirbhean who won the Listed 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown, but then was injured in the Irish 1000 Guineas and could not race again. Her dam was a half-sister to three Grade 1 winners in USA.

Teofilo was one of the top 15 sires in Europe in 2016 by earnings, having been ninth on the same list in 2015. He is responsible for Group 1 stars such as Parish Hall, Havana Gold, Quest For More and Special Fighter. Teofilo has also had great success in Australia, where Kermadec won the Group 1 Doncaster Mile and Palentino had a Group 1 double in the Australian Guineas and the Makybe Diva Stakes.
