GROUP 1 stars Ambivalent, Complacent, Ectot, Hartnell, Magic Hurricane, Ridasiyna, Seal Of Approval and, of course, the mighty Treve have shown us what progeny of the Montjeu (by Sadler’s Wells) stallions can achieve, and there could be sons and daughters of Pour Moi who can take their place among those standouts before too long. His profile always made it likely that his freshman year would yield some winners in the second half of the season, with one or more blacktype horses among them, and that is what he achieved in 2015.

Those first juveniles include the unbeaten pair Diamonds Pour Moi and Vincent’s Forever, the latter a John Gosden-trained Derby entrant, as well as the seven-length Nottingham winner Mr Khalid, a Marco Botti trainee who also holds classic entries.

It is the classic-entered Joe Murphy trained Only Mine, however, who holds the honour of being her sire’s first stakes winner, her victory in the Listed Bosra Sham Stakes at Newmarket coming shortly after a neck defeat in the Group 3 Firth of Clyde Stakes at Ayr.

Before that she was runner-up in the Group 3 Grangecon Stud Stakes and it is striking that all of her good form has been over six furlongs.

Her sire’s only juvenile success came over nine furlongs at Longchamp and he won the Group 2 Prix Greffulhe before showing that impressive turn of foot to take the Derby at Epsom, but clearly some of his progeny are showing greater speed and precocity than he did, which will boost his prospects of taking high rank in the general sires list.

Pour Moi is out of the unraced Gwynn (by Darshaan) and could be described as being a three-parts brother to her star daughter Gagnoa (by Sadler’s Wells), winner of the Group 3 Prix des Reservoirs at two and a dual classic-placed pattern winner at three.

His grandam Victoress (by Conquistador Cielo) is a half-sister to the Arc-placed Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine Awaasif (by Snow Knight) and so comes from the family of undefeated Derby, King George and Arc hero Lammtarra (by Nijinsky) and his Oaks-winning dam Snow Bride (by Blushing Groom).

Victoress is also a half-sister to the 1000 Guineas runner-up Konafa (by Damascus) and the Group/Grade 1 stars who descend from her include Bosra Sham (by Woodman), Hector Protector (by Woodman), Shanghai (by Procida), Act One (by In The Wings), Red Giant (by Giant’s Causeway) and last year’s juvenile Group 1 star Ultra (by Manduro).

Pour Moi’s yearlings made up to €220,000 in 2015; he made a promising start as a freshman, and the identity of his first pattern winners should be known before too long.

Won three races, £798,893, from 1 mile 1 furlong to 1½ miles, at 2 and 3 years including, Investec Derby Stakes, Epsom Downs, Gr.1, Prix Greffulhe, Saint-Cloud, Gr.2, also placed third in Prix La Force, Longchamp, Gr.3.

Retired to stud in 2012, and sire of the winners of 11 races, and £116,764, including ONLY MINE (IRE), DIAMONDS POUR MOI (GB), ELUSIVE MILLION (IRE), ENGAGE (IRE), FREEDOM BEEL (IRE), JUSTE POUR NOUS (GB), MR KHALID (GB), SILAS R (IRE), VINCENT’S FOREVER (GB)
