A GROUP 1 winning sprinter and a son of Invincible Spirit, Mayson has already established himself as a very successful young sire with his first two crops to race. His winners include five individual stakes winners and six other two-year-olds which have been group or listed placed.

Dance Diva won the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket and was second in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, Global Applause scored in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown and was group placed at Newbury and Goodwood, while Private Matter was a listed winner in France and Raydiance and Rosie Briar had listed wins at Ascot and Doncaster. Mayson Junior was group placed twice in Japan.

One of four Group 1 sprinters standing at Cheveley Park in 2018, Mayson’s stock were in demand at last year’s sales, with Yeomanstown Stud receiving 120,000gns for a yearling colt at Newmarket, where two of his horses in training sold for six-figure prices. In Japan his colt foal out of Moonglow fetched over €320,000.

Trained by Richard Fahey, Mayson won over five and six furlongs as a two-year-old and was second in the Listed Ripon Champion Trophy and fourth in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes, then he was blacktype placed another three times at 3 years, when an injury prevented him from racing before August.

He improved dramatically as a four-year-old in 2012, scoring a remarkable treble at Newmarket, beginning with a very easy three and a half lengths success in the Listed Abernant Stakes, before adding the Group 3 Palace House Stakes in a field of 16. Mayson certainly appreciated the soft ground for the six -urlong Group 1 July Cup, coming home unchallenged five lengths clear of The Cheka and Society Rock, with the subsequent Nunthorpe Stakes victress Ortensia only fourth and Sepoy unplaced. Mayson had just one more outing, beaten only a neck by Wizz Kid in a field of 18 for the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye.

Mayson’s sire Invincible Spirit was a champion sprinter in Ireland and his 14 other Group 1 stars include Kingman, Lawman, Charm Spirit and Moonlight Cloud. Mayson is the only foal of his dam Mayleaf, a half-sister by Pivotal to listed scorer Bathwick Bear, out of a listed placed half-sister to the dam of Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks heroine Singhalese, who is dam of the Group 1 Japanese Oaks star Sinhalite.
