A GROUP 1 winner in each of his three seasons in training and a European champion at both three and four years, Olympic Glory is now standing his second season at the Haras de Bouquetot, owned by Al Shaqab Racing of Qatar.

Trained by Richard Hannon, Olympic Glory was a comfortable winner on his debut in a six-furlong maiden race at Goodwood early in June 2012, then only 11 days later he was sent to Royal Ascot for the Group 2 Coventry Stakes, finishing very fast to be second, only three-quarters of a length behind that season’s unbeaten two-year-old champion Dawn Approach in a field of 22 runners.

That was Olympic Glory’s only defeat that year, as he went on to win the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket and then the Group 2 Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Those were both over seven furlongs, as also was the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp on Arc day, which he won impressively by a length and a quarter to give Sheikh Joaan of Qatar his first Group 1 victory.

The next year Olympic Glory began with a win in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury, but he did even better at Deauville, failing by only a short head to catch the brilliant Moonlight Cloud in the Group 1 Prix Jacques Le Marois, with Intello, Declaration Of War and Dawn Approach behind him. Next he was second to Maxios in the Group 1 Prix du Moulin, but he then took his revenge in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot, which he won by over three lengths, with Dawn Approach and Maxios well beaten. In the world rankings, Olympic Glory was named as the joint champion three-year-old colt in Europe and he had a Timeform rating of 132.

He was also a European champion in 2014, taking the title of older miler after again making a winning start in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, scoring by over two lengths. After finishing fourth to Cirrus Des Aigles in the Group 1 Prix d’Ispahan, Olympic Glory was third to Kingman in the Group 1 Prix Jacques Le Marois, then ended his racing career in spectacular fashion, coming from last to first in the Group 1 Prix de la Foret at Longchamp and beating Gordon Lord Byron by two lengths.

Olympic Glory and Starspangledbanner are the two best sons of Choisir, a champion in both Australia and Europe who has sired 67 blacktype winners. Acidanthera, the winning dam of Olympic Glory, is by Alzao and her grandam is Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes victress Amaranda, from the family of Epsom Derby hero Teenoso and the classic winner Give Thanks.
