JOINING Dark Angel, Camacho, Gutaifan and El Kabeir at Yeomanstown Stud this spring is Invincible Army, a good looking bay son of champion sprinter Invincible Spirit who was a winner of group races over six furlongs in each of his three seasons in training.

He is bred on very similar lines to Cable Bay, the leading first crop sire in 2019 who is also by Invincible Spirit out of a mare by Diktat.

In fact Invincible Army’s dam Rajeem was probably the very best daughter of Diktat, as her three victories included the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket where she was also successful in the Listed Montrose Stakes. Diktat also sired a European champion sprinter in Dream Ahead who won five Group 1 races and has sired several sprinting stars.

Rajeem is a half-sister to the dam of Dandhu who won the Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes in 2019, while her dam is an own-sister to Hoh Magic, champion two-year-old filly in Europe in 1994 when she won the Group 1 Prix Morny.

Invincible Army was in the frame in every one of his seven starts as a two-year-old, winning by five lengths second time out at Newmarket in June and then adding the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes at Kempton in September. He was also second in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York, the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury and the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood. He made an excellent start to his second season by winning the Group 3 Pavilion Stakes over six furlongs at Ascot by a length and a half from the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup star Eqtidaar, and then was second to Sands Of Mali in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock Park.

Improving all the time, Invincible Army was better than ever as a four-year-old in 2019, starting in March with a two-length success in the Listed Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster before adding the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes at York in May by the same margin. At the end of June came another easy victory in the Group 3 Chipchase Sakes at Newcastle.

Then, after running fifth in the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup, he was third to Fairyland in the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh. He ended a fine career with a fourth to Glass Slippers in the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp, with Mabs Cross, Fairyland and Battaash behind him.

INVINCIBLE ARMY (IRE), Bay 2015.
