ONE of the most notable of the 11 stallions standing at Dalham Hall in 2016 is Farhh, the handsome bay son of Pivotal who was the champion older miler in Europe in 2013 when he won both the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes and the Group 1 Champion Stakes. He was never out of the first three in 10 starts

Farhh has made a promising start as a stallion with his first crop of foals who were born in 2015. Only six of them were sold at last year’s sales, but they were in strong demand and averaged 44,088gns, almost six times his stud fee.

The colt out of Time Crystal sold for 90,000gns at the Newmarket December Sales, where Glenvale Stud paid 85,000gns for a colt from a Cadeaux Genereux mare.

Godolphin’s Farhh was very lightly raced in his first two seasons and ran only once as a two-year-old, coming home six lengths clear in a maiden race at Newmarket in July.

An injury then kept him off the course for 15 months, but he made a winning return in a mile handicap at Newmarket, beating 19 rivals by two and a half lengths.

hat trick

Farhh completed an unusual hat-trick by winning the Thirsk Hunt Cup by six lengths first time out at 4 years, carrying top weight.

His next race was the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, in which he was an unlucky third to So You Think and Carlton House, with the French Derby hero Reliable Man fourth.

After a half-length defeat by Nathaniel in the Group 1 Eclipse Stakes, Farhh was then second to Frankel in both the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York, finishing ahead of St Nicholas Abbey.

He ended that season with a second to Moonlight Cloud in the Group 1 Prix du Moulin, beaten only a head.

Even better aas a five-year-old, Farhh as always won first time out in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury by four lengths, then raced only once more, scoring in the Group 1 Qipco Champion Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Ascot, defeating French champion Cirrus Des Aigles and the Epsom Derby hero Ruler Of The World.

One of the best sons of champion sprinter Pivotal, Farhh is an outcross for most British and Irish mares.

His dam Gonbarda, by Lando, was a dual Group 1 star in Germany, including winning the Preis von Europa, and she also produced Farhh’s group winning brother Racing History.

His third dam Grimpola won the German 1000 Guineas and is grandam of the Irish Derby hero Fame And Glory and third dam of the 2015 Newmarket 1000 Guineas victress Legatissimo.

The David Wachman trained Legatissimo will stay in training in 2016 and aim to add to victories also in the Group 1 Matron Stakes and Nassau Stakes and she was also runner-up in the Oaks at Epsom and the Sea The Stars Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.
