THERE will be no less than seven Australian stallions covering at Dalham Hall Stud and Kildangan Stud this spring and one of the most exciting newcomers is the outstanding Brazen Beau.

The champion sprinter last year in Australia where he won two Group 1 events and two Group 2s, he is already well known in England, thanks to his close second in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last summer. Brazen Beau began his stud career a few months ago at Northwood Park, where his fee was A$44,000, and he looks a real bargain at the £10,000 which is being asked for him at Dalham Hall.

A winner at Canterbury on his debut, Brazen Beau also won the Group 2 Bollinger Champagne Classic over six furlongs at Doomben as a two-year-old, besides running second in the Group 1 J J Atkins Stakes over a mile at Eagle Farm, beaten just a head by Almalad, and in the Group 2 BRC Sires Produce Stakes at Doomben, only a neck behind Time For War.

As a three-year-old Brazen Beau was kept at sprint distances, putting up a tremendous performance to score in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap over six furlongs at Flemington by two and three-quarters lengths from Group 1 winners Chautauqua, Terravista and Lankan Rupee. He won another Group 1 sprint, the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington, by a length and a quarter from Delectation, Kuro and Scissor Kick.

Brazen Beau also defeated another star-studded field in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes over six furlongs at Randwick, by a length and three-quarters from Nostradamus, Delectation, Hallowed Crown and his old rival Time For War. In the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington he was second to Lankan Rupee. Brazen Beau’s record is similar to that of Exceed And Excel, who was also sprint champion at three after beating his elders in the Newmarket Handicap.

In June 2015 Brazen Beau came to Royal Ascot for the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes over six furlongs and was a close second, beaten only half a length by the American star Undrafted, with Astaire, Mustajeeb, Gordon Lord Byron and Moviesta all behind him.

Brazen Beau is inbred 3x4 to Danzig, from whom he descends through Green Desert, Invincible Spirit and the high-class South Australian sprinter I Am Invincible, the champion first crop sire in Australia two years ago. Sansadee, dam of Brazen Beau, won three races and was third in the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes at Canberra. She is out of a half-sister to the US stakes winner Majestic Answer and this is a top Canadian family which has also produced such stars as Fanfreluche (Champion in Canada and the USA), Holy Roman Emperor (Champion French juvenile), Flying Spur, L’Enjoleur, Medaille D’Or and Charm Spirit, winner of the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot.

Won five races, £859,944, from 5 ½ furlongs to 6 furlongs, at 2 and 3 years including, Coolmore Stud Ascot Vale Stakes, Flemington, Gr.1, Lexus Newmarket Handicap, Flemington, Gr.1, Bollinger Champagne Classic, Doomben, Gr.2, Sydney City Toyota Roman Consul Stakes, Randwick, Gr.2, also placed second in Black Caviar Lightning Stakes, Flemington, Gr.1, Diamond Jubilee Stakes, Ascot, Gr.1, Tatts Group J J Atkins Stakes, Eagle Farm, Gr.1, Mitavite BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes, Doomben, Gr.2. Retired to stud in Australia in 2015, in Britain in 2016.
