A VERY consistent and talented performer, Kodi Bear scored all his four wins in group or listed races and was also placed in Group 1 events at both two and three. One of the best sons of Kodiac, he earned €325,000 and comes from a family which has produced 14 blacktype winners in the last three generations.
Kodi Bear was second to Adaay on his Newbury debut, then fifth of 15 in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, before winning the Listed Winkfield Stakes over seven furlongs at Ascot by a length and a half, with champion sprinter Muhaarar only third.
In his only other start that season he was second to the champion two-year-old Belardo in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, well clear of group winners Estidhkaar and Maftool. In the European rankings, Kodi Bear was rated level with Limato.
Kodi Bear was even better as a three-year-old, starting that season with a win in the Listed Midsummer Stakes over a mile at Windsor, then going to Chantilly to run fourth in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat behind Territories. Back in England he won the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes over a mile very impressively by four lengths with Custom Cut behind, and then defeated Gabrial and Cable Bay by more than three lengths in the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood in August.
His other race that year was in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes won by Solow, in which he was out of the first three, but only half a length and a neck behind Gleneagles and Territories. Timeform’s Racehorses of 2015 rated Kodi Bear level with Belardo, Found and Territories.
Kodiac is a half-brother by Danehill to the brilliant sprinter and very successful sire Invincible Spirit. Winner of four races in England and Dubai, Kodiac has become one of the top stallions in Europe with his progeny earning more than £10,000,000 in prize money. His outstanding perfromer is the top filly Tiggy Wiggy, winner of the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes, but in addition to Kodi Bear he has four other Group 2 winners to his credit and 28 blacktype scorers in all.
Kodi Bear’s dam Hawattef, a daughter of Mujtahid out of a Green Desert mare, is dam of eight winners and grandam of Rivertime and Storm Of Wind, both listed winners.
The next dam Madary is a winning half-sister to that wonderful broodmare Dievotchka, whose winners in France include Esoterique, with three Group 1 wins including the Prix Jacques Le Marois and the Sun Chariot Stakes, champion stayer Russian Hope and four other blacktype winners.
This is the family of leading runners and successful stallions Welsh Pageant and Royal Palace.
