IT is not often that a Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup winner is available at as modest a stud fee as £5,000, but that is the situation with Outstrip at Dalham Hall Stud.

Homebred by Darley, owned by Godolphin and trained by Charlie Appleby, he was a top class two-year-old who won three of his five starts that season and he is extremely well bred, being by Exceed And Excel out of American Grade 1 star Asi Siempre.

Outstrip’s first runners in 2019 included 22 individual winners of 29 races, making him one of the top five newcomer sires, and among them were Flippa The Strippa, who scored in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown Park, and La La Land, listed placed in Germany. A yearling colt by Outstrip sold for €50,000 in 2019.

Last weekend Outstrip sired another blacktype winner when his daughter Outburst led all the way to win the Grade 3 Florida Oaks. She won a couple of times in France last year.

Outstrip came from almost last to first to win the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita, with a relentless run down the straight to score in a fast time for the mile, with Bobby’s Kitten third. In the European Classifications, Outstrip was one of the seven best two-year-old colts of his year on 117, sharing that mark with Australia.

Outstrip was never out of the first three in five starts as a two-year-old, scoring first time out in a Newmarket maiden, then running a close second to champion juvenile Toormore in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood. At Doncaster in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes, he won easily by three lengths from The Grey Gatsby and Cable Bay, then was third to War Command in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, before his trip to California.

Racing in the highest class as a three-year-old, Outstrip was third to Kingman and Night Of Thunder in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, ahead of War Command and Toormore, and a close fourth to Kingman and Toronado in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

One of 17 Group 1 winners sired by champion Australian sprinter Exceed And Excel, Outstrip has three crosses of Northern Dancer. Asi Siempre, the dam of Outstrip, was a top class racemare on both sides of the Atlantic, winning the Grade 1 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes at Keeneland.

She is a grey daughter of El Prado, while her dam Siempre Asi was by Silver Hawk out of the speedy Turkish Treasure, a dual group winner.
