PATTERN WINNER FOR DERBY HERO AUSTRALIA

Australia, the Derby-winning son of Epsom classic stars Galileo (by Sadler's Wells) and Ouija Board (by Cape Cross), is off the mark as a blacktype sire following the narrow victory of Beyond Reason in the Group 3 Prix Six Perfections over seven furlongs at Deauville on Saturday.

A Charlie Appleby-trained filly who was bred by Paget Bloodstock, the 370,000gns Tattersalls Book 1 graduate carries the famous Godolphin colours and has now won two of her four starts.

She missed out on a blacktype placing, by just half a length, when fourth to Arthur Kitt in the Listed Chesham Stakes at Ascot a month before, and she holds entries in both the Group 2 Debutante Stakes and Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.

Her Grade 2-placed dam, No Explaining (by Azamour), won a Grade 3 handicap over eight and a half furlongs at Pimlico, and her grandam, nine-furlong Navan maiden winner Claustra (by Green Desert), is a half-sister to two horses of note.

Bayamo (by Valanour) was a dual Grade 1-placed, nine-furlong Grade 2 scorer in California, whereas pattern-winning sprinter Wessam Prince (by Soviet Star) was third to Cherokee Rose in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.

WAR COMMAND'S FIRST STAKES WINNER

Just hours after Coolmore Stud's freshman sire Australia notched up his first stakes winner – Beyond Reason at Deauville – his team-mate and fellow freshman War Command (by War Front) got his first one too.

Victory Command took the Listed Wooldridge Group Pat Eddery Stakes over seven furlongs at Ascot.

The Mark Johnston-trained juvenile, who represents his sire's first crop, has now won four of his seven starts – one of those by nine lengths – and he has been placed in the other three.

The late May colt was bred by Joseph Higgins, he cost just 6,000gns at the Tattersalls December Sale as a yearling, and the best of his siblings is Conquest (by Invincible Spirit), winner of the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes, Group 3 Bengough Stakes, Listed Hever Sprint Stakes, and also the Stewards' Cup.

Their dam, Aguinaga (by Machiavellian), won over middle-distances and, in addition to being a half-sister to dual 12-furlong Group 2 scorer First Magnitude (by Arazi), her siblings include Group 1 Sprint Cup hero Iktamal (by Danzig Connection) and Grade 2 Arkansas Derby winner Rockamundo (by Key To The Mint).

The third dam of Victory Command is Group 1 Champion Stakes and dual Group 2 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes heroine Rose Bowl (by Habitat), who was a daughter of Prix de Diane (French Oaks) and Prix Vermeille star Roseliere (by Misti).

ANOTHER FOR BUNGLE INTHEJUNGLE

Rathasker Stud's Bungle Inthejungle (by Exceed And Excel) became the third freshman sire to get a stakes winner this past week when Rumble Inthejungle landed the Group 3 Markel Insurance Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday.

The Richard Spencer-trained colt, whose only defeat in three starts is his two-length fourth to Shang Shang Shang in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, looks a high-class prospect in the making.

He won the five-furlong contest by two and a half lengths from Life Of Riley, and he may step up to six furlongs before long as he holds an entry in the Group 2 Al Basti Equiworld Gimcrack Stakes at York.

The £70,000 Goffs UK Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale graduate was bred by Patrick Gleeson, he is a half-brother to last year's Group 2 Superlative Stakes third Great Prospector (by Elzaam), and he is the third foal, and third winner, out of Guana (by Dark Angel).

His unraced dam is a three-parts sister to Group 1-placed Group 2 winner and young French stallion Birchwood (by Dark Angel), and his grandam – Guana Bay (by Cadeaux Genereux) – is a half-sister to the high-class sprinters Millyant (by Primo Dominie) and Prince Sabo (by Young Generation).

His relationship to the latter will prove eye-catching should Rumble Inthejungle go on to do well enough on the track to earn a berth at stud whenever his racing days come to an end.

Bungle Inthejungle's first stakes winner was the Italian filly Sopran Artemide, a five-length San Siro listed scorer in early June who was short-headed in the Group 3 Premio Primi Passi at the same venue two weeks later.

GROUP 2 FOR LAND FORCE

No Nay Never (by Scat Daddy), another member of Coolmore's freshman sire team, has two stakes winners to his name and one of those is Land Force, the previously pattern-placed stakes winner who took the Group 2 Qatar Richmond Stakes at Goodwood on Thursday.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt was bred by Evie Stockwell, he is out of the talented Theann (by Rock Of Gibraltar), and so is a half-brother to US Grade 1 star Photo Call (by Galileo).

His dam is out of high-class sprinter Cassandra Go (by Indian Ridge) and so is a half-sister to Halfway To Heaven (by Pivotal), the Group 1-winning dam of Group 1 scorer Rhododendron (by Galileo) and that filly's pattern-winning full-siblings Magical and Flying The Flag.

Land Force, who holds a long list of big-race entries, is a €350,000 graduate of the Goffs Orby Sale.

BOOSTS FOR ES QUE LOVE

The pedigree of Rathasker Stud stallion Es Que Love (by Clodovil) got two boosts this week, the more recent coming when his half-sister Listen In won a 12-furlong listed contest at Clairefontaine, in France, on Monday.

This was a second blacktype success for the dual Group 2-placed four-year-old, and the Freddy Head-trained bay is a daughter of Sea The Stars (by Cape Cross), whose excellent son Stradivarius was a repeat Group 1 Qatar Goodwood Cup hero on Tuesday.

She was bred by the Es Que Syndicate, named for her Inchinor-sired (by Ahonoora) dam, and that winning mare is also responsible for listed scorer Zhui Feng (by Invincible Spirit) – who has a foal full-sister – and for Hong Kong Group 1 winner Dominant (by Cacique). They have a two-year-old half-sister named Anya Ylina (by Oasis Dream).

The second boost to the pedigree came the previous afternoon when With You (by Dansili) ran out an impressive three-length winner of the Group 1 Prix Rothschild over a mile at Deauville.

A full-sister to Group 1 Prix de l'Opera heroine We Are, she is one of four stakes winners out of Group 3 Prix de Flore scorer In Clover (by Inchinor), a mare whose siblings include Bellona (by Bering) – the stakes-winning grandam of Es Que Love and Listen In.

There are also many other blacktype winners in the various branches of the first three generations of the young stallion's pedigree, including his Group 3 Prix de Royaumont-winning third dam Bellarida (by Bellypha) and her Group 1-placed, pattern-winning granddaughter Liily's Angel (by Dark Angel).

Es Que Love, whose best win came in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood, has only had a handful of runners so far from his first crop of juvenile, and up to Wednesday night there were already four winners among them.

LIGHTNING SPEAR MAKES GROUP 1 BREAKTHROUGH

Popular miler Lightning Spear is seven years old and has done more than enough in his racing career to merit a berth at stud, but now when that time comes he will go to his new home as both a Group 1 winner and millionaire.

The David Simcock-trained chesnut, who was bred by Newsells Park Stud, won the Group 1 Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday, making him the 28th top-level scorer for Cheveley Park Stud veteran Pivotal (by Polar Falcon) – sire of notable stallions Kyllachy and Siyouni, and of the promising Farhh.

He is the best of four blacktype horses out of Atlantic Destiny (by Royal Academy), and that stakes-winning mare is a half-sister to Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup third Make No Mistake (by Darshaan), who won the Group 2 Royal Whip Stakes and Group 3 Meld Stakes in the famous Moyglare Stud colours.

His fourth, fifth and sixth dams are champion What A Treat (by Tudor Minstrel), Rare Treat (by Stymie) and Rare Perfume (by Eight Thirty), and so Lightning Spear comes from a famous family.

Rare Perfume was the dam of Belmont Stakes winner, champion three-year-old and blacktype sire Jaipur (by Nasrullah), Rare Treat's grandson Golden Fleece (by Nijinsky) was an undefeated Derby hero in 1982, a blacktype sire, but died young, whereas the most notable with regard to Lightning Spear's future stallion potential, is the star half-brother to his third dam, unraced Treat Me Nobly (by Vaguely Noble).

Be My Guest (by Northern Dancer) won the Waterford Crystal Mile and Desmond Stakes in 1977, retired to Coolmore Stud, and went on to be crowned European champion sire. His Group 1 stars included Assert, Go And Go, Luth Enchantee, On The House and Pentire.

COMMONWEALTH CUP CANDIDATE FOR DANDY MAN

There is a long way to go yet before the 2019 Group 1 Commonwealth Cup but already a few two-year-olds have shown the potential to be candidates for that six-furlong contest, and one of those is Comedy.

The Karl Burke-trained filly, an eighth stakes winner for Ballyhane Stud stallion Dandy Man (by Mozart), was unplaced over five furlongs on her debut in May but has since won all three of her tries over six, by an aggregate of seven lengths.

The John Hutchinson-bred bay is a €21,000 Goffs Sportsmans Sale graduate, she is a half-sister to a mile winner, and she is the second foal out of Dubaya (by Dubawi), a mile scorer whose third dam is none other than Brocade (by Habitat).

That Group 1 Prix de la Foret heroine is the mare who gave us the Group 1 mile stars Barathea (by Sadler's Wells) and Gossamer (by Sadler's Wells), among others of note.

ANOTHER PROMISING ANGEL

Yeomanstown Stud's leading sire Dark Angel (by Acclamation) has yet another promising prospect to his name following the two-and-a-half-length victory of Angel's Hideaway in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Keeneland Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

The John Gosden-trained grey, who carries the famous Cheveley Park Stud colours, has now won two of her five starts, and this eye-catching performance came two weeks after chasing home the exciting Pretty Pollyanna in the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket.

The stud also bred her, in partnership with Doc Bloodstock, and sent her to last year's Goffs Orby Sale, where she was sold for €390,000.

She is a full-sister to two winners, including Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes and Group 3 Hackwood Stakes runner-up Perfect Angel, and her winning dam, The Hermitage (by Kheleyf), is a stakes-placed half-sister to Crown Of Light (by Mtoto) and Alboostan (by Sabrehill).

The latter was a Group 1-placed mile stakes winner at two, but the former was third in both the Group 1 Oaks and Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks after taking the Listed Oaks Trial at Lingfield.

Crown Of Light is also notable as being the dam of the multiple Group 2-placed, dual stakes-winning stayer Balkan Knight (by Selkirk).

Angel's Hideaway holds an entry in the Group 2 Sky Bet Lowther Stakes at York, and she could be a potential Commonwealth Cup candidate in the making, but there is also a chance that she could become one of her sire's notable milers.

GROUP 1 TARGET FOR DREAM AHEAD COLT

Next month's Group 1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh is now a potential target for Dark Vision, the Mark Johnston-trained colt who impressed in the Group 2 Qatar Vintage Stakes at Goodwood on Tuesday.

The son of former Ballylinch Stud stallion Dream Ahead (by Dikitat) – who moved to Haras de Grandcamp, in France, in 2017 – is unbeaten in three starts, this was his first attempt at seven furlongs, and he could follow in the hoofprints of Al Wukair by becoming another Group 1 star and classic performer for his sire.

The big bay was bred by S F Bloodstock LLC, made just €15,000 in Goffs as a foal and was snapped up by Johnston for just 15,000gns 11 months later, from Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

His half-sister Al Hayyah (by Lope De Vega) has been stakes-placed at eight and 10 furlongs in France, and his dam, Black Dahlia (by Dansili) – who stayed 12 furlongs – won five times from seven to 10 furlongs in England.

Third dam South Rock (by Rock City) got her blacktype success over seven furlongs at Evry, and she, in turn, is out of a half-sister to the dual Group 1 Lockinge Stakes hero Soviet Line (by Soviet Star).
