STAR yearling King’s Legacy (Redoute’s Choice) made the headlines in this column a fortnight ago when he beat he beat Prague to win the seven-furlong Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Rosehill. Suited by the step up in trip, he showed that he was just as good over a mile last weekend when he added the Group 1 Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes over a mile on Saturday at Randwick.

Now the winner of half of his six starts, including a Group 3 over six furlongs, he boosted his earnings to more than Aus$880,000, while by landing the final two legs of what is known as the Juvenile Triple Crown, he attracted the attention and investment of Coolmore as a stallion prospect for the future.

The Paul and Peter Snowden-trained two-year-old is now odds-on to be crowned champion juvenile and the Segenhoe Stud-bred is getting used to making headlines. He first did so when he was sold at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale to Irish-born bloodstock agent James Harron for $1.4 million. Harron heads the syndicate that has raced the colt.

King’s Legacy is one of 38 Group 1 winner for Redoute’s Choice who died 13 months ago at the age of 22. He was based at Arrowfield Stud where he retired in 2000.

He initially stood for $30,000 and his fee reached a peak of $330,000 in 2007. Redoute’s Choice spent two season in Europe, at the Aga Khan’s Haras de Bonneval in 2013 and 2014.

King’s Legacy is the second foal out of the multiple winner and stakes-performer Breakfast In Bed, a daughter of Hussonet (Mr Prospector). The third foal of Breakfast In Bed is a yearling full-sister to the dual Group 1 winner and she sold at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for $475,000 to Yulong Investments. She looks a bargain already.

Breakfast In Bed is from the immediate family of another fine son of Redoute’s Choice in Not A Single Doubt. From the first crop of his sire, Not A Single Doubt has a double-digit number of Group 1 winners, and yet more to come. Up closer in the pedigree, Breakfast In Bed is a half-sister to last season’s Group 1 ATC Flight Stakes winner Oohood (I Am Invincible) who earned more than $1.5 million.

Making King’s Legacy even more appealing as a sire prospect is the fact that his third dam was a half-sister to Snippets (Lunchtime), a brilliant racehorse who proved himself a stallion of the highest quality. The 1987 joint champion two-year-old and later the champion three-year-old sprinter, his 57 stakes winners included a host of Group 1 scorers including Pins, Spartacus, Casual Pass, Hasna and Snowland.
