THE Open Yearling Sale at Kill will this year be conducted by Goffs on Friday, November 6th, and will be immediately followed by the Open Horses in Training Sale. These auctions serve a very useful purpose, coming at the end of the flat racing season, just as the jumping programme is getting into full swing.

Goffs have assembled an interesting catalogue containing 201 well-bred yearlings and 83 horses in training, most of which have been in action during 2015 and many of which are already winners. There are 13 colts and geldings from the Aga Khan Studs.

A recent impressive graduate from the Open Yearling Sale is Custom Cut, a €5,800 purchase who this year has won the Group 2 Bet365 Mile at Sandown Park and the Group 2 Boomerang Stakes at the Irish Champions weekend. Margot Did, who cost trainer Mick Halford only €16,000, went on to win the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York, while the 2013 Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp was won by Maarek, sold at the October Horses in Training Sale in 2011.
