TATTERSALLS will again hold the October Yearling Sale Book 1 on three days, from Tuesday to Thursday, October 3rd to 5th, during a week when there is no racing at Newmarket, starting at 11am each day. The catalogue is slightly smaller and the 502 high-class yearlings, arranged alphabetically by their dams beginning with the letter I, are 48 fewer than last year.

Then Books 2 and 3 of the October Sale will take place in the following week, with another 1,466 yearlings on offer, 132 more than in 2016.

The sale, which has produced six Derby winners in the last 15 years, has again been boosted by the £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus Scheme, with that substantial sum payable to the winners of many of the maiden races for two-year-olds in Britain and Ireland in 2018.

Bloodstock from the Ballymacoll Stud dispersal is being sold by Tattersalls this autumn, with five yearlings at this sale and another four at the Book 2 Sale, all consigned by Corduff Stud.

There will also be six Ballymacoll horses in training at the Autumn Sale, then nine foals and 22 mares and fillies at the December Sale.

Tattersalls have again assembled a remarkable array of potential talent at the Book 1 Sale, with own or half-brothers or sisters to a large number of Group 1 stars, including Highland Reel, Postponed, Authorized, Galileo Gold, Capri, Order Of St George, Halfway To Heaven, Main Sequence, The Tin Man, etc.

There are 14 of Frankel’s third crop in the catalogue, 21 yearlings by Galileo, 30 by Dubawi and 29 by Sea The Stars, while Acclamation, Camelot, Cape Cross, Dansili, Dark Angel, Dutch Art, Exceed And Excel, Iffraaj, Invincible Spirit, Kodiac, Lope De Vega, Mastercraftsman, New Approach, Oasis Dream, Shamardal and Teofilo are all strongly represented.

The stallions with first crop yearlings include Australia, Charm Spirit, Kingman, No Nay Never, Slade Power and Toronado. American sires are always in strong demand and among those in the catalogue are Kitten’s Joy, Medaglia D’Oro, Scat Daddy and War Front.
