BERTRAM Allen’s wonderful pony Magic Shadow passed away peacefully at his stable in Hünxe, Germany, yesterday at the age of 28.

The 12.2hh Magic Shadow was passed through the Allen family when ridden by Bertram, Grace, Lucy and Harry and before that he was partnered by international show jumper Darragh Kenny.

Bertram was first pictured in The Irish Field in 2005 with Magic Shadow, aged 10.

Writing on his website, Allen said: “Magic had his own special character! A total sweetheart, a brilliant schoolmaster who loved to win. Magic was very much part of our family and leaves a void no other animal will ever fill. He will be remembered not only for his success in the arena but his great character and friendship.

“Thank you, Magic you were our wonder pony. We will miss you.”
