WEG at Tryon

THE 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games will be held at the Tryon International Equestrian Centre in North Carolina, USA, following the withdrawal of Bromont, Canada, earlier this year. The date for the Games has been changed from August to September 10th to 23rd 2018 due to significantly more favourable weather condition in North Carolina during that time.

Tryon International Equestrian Centre is situated on a 1,600 acre site at the foothills of the Blue Mountains. The venue has 1,200 permanent stables, 12 arenas including a floodlit international arena, a covered arena with 5,000 seats, and a world-class cross country course that will be used for both eventing and driving.

JumpingClash

A new JumpingClash challenge will debut at the five-star Madrid Horse Week later this month. The concept was designed by Daniel Entrecanales, President of Madrid Horse Week, to make the sport of show jumping more appealing to audiences, both live and on television.

The class, which is FEI approved, will work on a direct elimination format, whereby two riders go head-to-head in a ‘clash’ and the loser is directly eliminated from the competition. Sixteen riders, eight seeded and eight who will have pre-qualified, will compete until the winner is finally crowned.

Darragh Kenny is one Irish rider that is expected to take part in Madrid. Entrecanales has said he will franchise JumpingClash to other shows around the world if it generates a substantial level of interest.
