THE NAF Virtual Eventing competition certainly didn’t end up as a dressage test with both ‘jumping’ phases proving very influential last weekend.
Having skilfully negotiated her way through a variety of tasks on her feet and a bike resulting in a double clear, the winner on a penalty score of 32.8 was Britain’s Kirsty Chabert who had been off the pace after dressage with Classic VI, the 11-year-old Calvaro Z mare on whom she had finished 24th in the CCI5*-L at Pau in October.
Ireland’s Fred Scala picked up five cross-country jumping penalties to complete in 10th place with Corriebeg/Everon Vivendi (39.9) while, with 10 penalties on the same phase, Joseph Murphy finished three places further adrift on Cesar V (40.9). Both riders were raising funds for NHS Charities and The Mater Foundation with the total raised by the entire field for worldwide frontline workers at time of writing being roughly £163,000 and rising.
The associated auction and raffle finish tonight (Saturday) and there are plenty of items well worth checking out before then on www.virtualeventing.com
