Clark injured

AOIFE Clark underwent surgery on her collarbone after a fall while schooling youngsters last Sunday which ruled her out of this weekend’s four-star Mistubishi Badminton Horse Trials, where she was due to ride Master Rory. Clark posted on post social media: “Watching Badminton from hospital bed, feeling very sick not to be there.”

Dino W sold

BERTRAM Allen’s 10-year-old stallion Dino W has been sold to King Mohammed VI of Morocco and will be seen under Moroccan Olympian Abdelkebir Ouaddar. The Berlin-sired grey joined Allen’s team in 2013 as a five-year-old and together they have won many classes at four and five-star level.

Damien Griffin’s top mount Tabby has also been sold, to young rider Cian Harrison. The 13-year-old Captain Clover-sired gelding was bred and owned by Pam Donaghy.

Mart legislation

MINISTER for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed TD, announced a new rule for equine being sold at marts. As part of the Animal Health and Welfare Regulations 2018, which replaces the Livestock Marts Act 1967, the rule reads: “The operator of a livestock mart shall take all necessary measures to ensure that an equine, other than a suckling foal accompanying its mother, must be haltered or bridled and led by hand when not confined to a pen.”

Young Breeder training

THE next Teagasc and Horse Sport Ireland Young Breeders training event takes place on Saturday, May 12th at Damien Griffin’s Lissyegan Stables in Ballinalsoe, Co Galway from 1.30pm. Young Breeder trainer Philip Scott and Teagasc Equine Specialists will assess conformation and athleticism of animals at the educational event. THOMASTOWN Horse Show cancelled all show jumping due to take place at the show tomorrow (Sunday), including the SJI National Grand Prix. All showing and the dog show will run as scheduled.Juniors second

JAMES Kernan’s Irish junior (U18) show jumping team of Harry Allen (Dis Moi rout de Clairbois), Kate Derwin (AHG Whiterock Cruise Down (ISH)), Jason Foley (Castlefield Vegas (ISH)) and Sean Monaghan (Simone) were second in the Nations Cup at Fontainebleau yesterday (Friday).
