WEXFORD show jumper Bertram Allen was voted the Irish Independent Young Sports Star of the Year by an overwhelming public vote. He was honoured for his achievements during the Croke Park Hotel/Irish Independent Sportstar of the Year luncheon on Monday.

TRIUMPH
The Bray fighter won the award back in 2012 after her triumph at the London Olympics and has regained it in 2014 after claiming her fifth world title in South Korea.
Allen (19) is currently ranked 17th in the world show jumping rankings and is set to climb further following his performance at the London International Horse Show in recent days.
The young rider cut short his Olympia campaign to collect his award.
In 2014, the young rider has won two five-star Grand Prix in Lummen and Dublin, won a World Cup qualifier at Verona, made his Nations Cup debut and finished seventh individually at the World Equestrian Games.
