IT was another good weekend for Ballypatrick Stables as their student Adrienne Dixon took the win in the Horse Sport Ireland-sponsored Grand Prix at Munster Stadium Jumping in Cork last Friday.
Trained by Greg Broderick, Dixon put in a impressive performance when she crossed the line in 36.84 seconds with Zuidam. This was the second win for this stallion in Munster Stadium Jumping having also led the victory lap under the command of Darragh Ryan in Limerick.
It was another exciting class with six of the 15 starters progressing to the second round and off these, three delivered double clears.
Owned by Paul Carr, Zuidam is a 13-year-old stallion by Guidam out of the Indoctro-sired mare Our Mexico. Since taking over the ride from Darragh Ryan and Broderick, the stallion has performed well for Dixon. Among their good results is first, second and third in the CSI4* in Vejer de la Frontera and first and second in Cagnes-sur-Mer CSI3*. On Irish soil the pairing took second place at Balmoral CSI2* and second and fourth in Mullingar CSI2*.
Last November, at the Supreme Sale of Show Jumpers sale, Dixon purchased Killossery Kaiden, who was the winner of the six-year-old final at the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken, under Ger O’Neill’s command.
National Champion Francis Connors took the runner-up place when he lodged a clear with Bobby Flynn’s Hyperion in 38.46 seconds. Kildare rider Edward Doyle was fractions behind with Derryinver Luxury Cruise in 38.91 for third. Placed fourth in the Munster Stadium Jumping in Limerick, Greg Broderick repeated this performance when he partnered Daify to fourth. Broderick put in the fastest round of the class in 35.49, but four faults cost him dearly.
Winner of the round at Limerick, Darragh Ryan was back in the ribbons when he took fifth place. Riding Aerosmith, he was just behind Broderick when he crossed the line carrying four faults in 35.56.
Ger O’Neill took the last place in the line-up when he incurred four faults with Eamonn Murphy’s Dondoctro Ryal K in 39.11.
128cms Future Champions
Kicking off the evening was the TRI-sponsored 128cms Future Champions. As always, these riders gave it their all in a bid to take the winner’s share of the €2,000 on offer.
The standard was high with 10 of the 15 starters delivering clears first time out. Taking the win was Tipperary rider Alexandra Hourigan and Twin Cam when they delivered a clear in 30.41. Hourigan has featured in classes around the country and has clocked up a series of results, which includes fourth place in the 128cms Coolmore Stud at Ennis, and a win in the Springboard qualifier in Barnadown.
Placed fourth in Munster Stadium Jumping in Limerick, Aine Shortall and Toorboy Tommy were just one second behind in 31.47 for second place. Cork rider Robyn Lee had no shortage of support as she partnered Little Lord of the Hills into third, clear in 33.85.
Fellow Cork rider Kate Lynch was also cheered on and she didn’t disappoint when she crossed the line aboard Coppenagh Hakuna Matata in 37.43 for fourth.
Alice Wachman and Little Ceaser’s careful approach paid off when they lodged a clear in 38.20 for fifth place. Fastest of the four-faulters in 32.18, and accounting for sixth place, were Paula Williams and Lakefield Stormy.
Young Riders 1.10m
In the Young Riders 1.10m Championship, victory belonged to Tipperary rider Max Wachman. Riding Cesha Old, he was fastest of the seven double clears in 34.14 seconds to claim the majority share of €1,000 prize fund. It has been a good month for this combination who also won the RDS Children on Horses qualifier at The Meadows.
In second place were Robyn Moran and Diamond Clare Queen in 35.72, ahead of Peter O’Donovan and MHS Peyton in 35.75. Shauna Reaney and Culleens Paddy also kept everything in place in 37.19 for eventual fourth, ahead of Amy Turpin and Captain Ghareeb.
